NAVAL ARCHITECTURE / HYDROSTATICS & STABILITY

6.5 m Sailing Yacht

Hydrostatics & Stability Analysis

Hydrostatic and stability assessment of a 6.5 m sailing yacht performed in Orca3D for Rhinoceros, including hydrostatic characteristics, loading condition and righting-arm stability analysis.

Hydrostatic and stability analysis of a 6.5 m sailing yacht performed in Orca3D for Rhinoceros. I evaluated the vessel’s hydrostatic properties, displacement, trim, centers of buoyancy and flotation, metacentric height, and loading condition. I also generated the righting-arm (GZ) stability curve over a range of heel angles to assess the yacht’s stability characteristics.

01

HYDROSTATIC PROPERTIES

Evaluation of the yacht’s hydrostatic characteristics for the analyzed loading condition.

02

DISPLACEMENT & TRIM

Assessment of vessel displacement and trim.

03

CENTERS OF BUOYANCY & FLOTATION

Evaluation of the relevant hydrostatic centers and their positions.

04

METACENTRIC HEIGHT

Assessment of initial stability using the vessel’s metacentric characteristics.

05

LOADING CONDITION

Definition and evaluation of the analyzed yacht loading condition.

06

GZ STABILITY CURVE

Generation of the righting-arm curve over a range of heel angles to evaluate the yacht’s stability characteristics.
